Freelance 3D artist.
VFX mindset.
I make difficult visuals feel effortless, combining 3D, animation, look development and compositing from first idea to final frame.
A 3D artist who follows the shot through.
I’m Anti Rannus, a freelance 3D artist, animator and VFX artist with more than 15 years of industry experience. I work remotely with agencies, studios, production companies, brands and artists worldwide.
What connects my work is an interest in how the final image is built. Animation affects the lighting; materials affect the composition; a composite may reveal something that needs to change in the render. I work across those stages so decisions can be made with the finished shot in mind.
Some projects need a specialist for a particular shot or stage. Others benefit from one person carrying the visual direction through look development, animation, rendering and compositing. I can work in either role, with the scope shaped around the team and the brief.
A practical conversation from the first brief.
A storyboard, reference deck or rough idea gives us somewhere to start. I want to understand what the image needs to communicate, where it will appear and which decisions are already fixed. From there we can agree on the work, review stages and delivery requirements.
Early tests help make creative choices concrete. A style frame can establish the look; a simple animation can settle timing and camera movement. Feedback at those stages helps focus the detailed production work.
When joining an existing team, I work around the agreed shot responsibilities and handoff requirements. When handling a larger part of the project, I keep the connections between 3D, rendering and compositing in view.
Cinema 4D for 3D. A workflow that connects with yours.
I use Cinema 4D for my 3D work and render with Octane or Redshift. After Effects handles compositing and motion graphics, while Photoshop supports image and texture work. Each application has its own role.
A team using different 3D software is usually workable. Common exchange formats allow geometry and baked animation to move between applications. We agree on the format and what needs to stay editable before the handoff, since materials and procedural setups may need preparation.
The showreel is the best starting point for judging the visual fit. If a particular shot or technique feels relevant to your project, mention it when you get in touch, along with your schedule and any available references.
